Random debate chat. Real humans. In seconds.
Hit one button, pick a prompt, get paired with a debater on the other side of the planet. Video, voice, the open mic. No timer, no judge, no AI fill-in. Just the round.
How it works
Pick a prompt
A real motion, a debate hot take, an icebreaker, or your own. Both sides see it when the round starts.
Hit Find
You join a global queue with other debaters who want a real round, right now. Pairs usually land in under a minute when anyone else is online.
Talk
You land in a video room with the prompt at the top. Sides are random. Argue, agree, pivot, drop the round, run it back.

What you can talk about
The prompts are debate-flavored but not formal. There's no timer, no judge, no ballot. Use it for casual sparring, format-curiosity, talking to debaters outside your circuit, or just blowing off steam between tournaments.
Why humans only
Other surfaces on DebateAI fall back to an AI partner when nobody pairs in 60 seconds. This page doesn't. If the queue is cold, you wait or you cancel. The point is talking to a real person who's choosing to be here for the same reason you are.
If you want the AI fallback, the structured round, the format timer, or the judge ballot, those live next door. Spar with format gating → · Live tournament rooms → · Voice round with AI →
FAQ
Do I need to sign in?
Yes. One tap with Google. Sign-in is what lets the matchmaker pair two specific people and keeps the queue safe from bots. We don't post anything, we don't email you, and there's no card on file.
How long is the wait?
Depends on who's online. On busy evenings it's seconds; on a quiet Tuesday afternoon it can be a few minutes. There's no AI fallback on this page. You wait or you cancel.
How is this different from /spar?
/spar gates pairings by debate format (APDA, BP, PF, etc.) and falls back to an AI partner after 60s. This page is the opposite: no format, humans only, the prompt is the whole structure.
How is this different from a general-purpose AI?
There's a real person on the other side. The whole product is built for arguing out loud against someone who'll push back. Built by a national APDA champion at UChicago for people who care about format and clash.
Is the video private?
The room is a one-off video URL that expires after 24 hours. Only the two paired users have the URL. We don't record. Full privacy policy →
What if my opponent is rude?
Leave the room. Come back to this page and find a new one. If something is seriously wrong, email feedback@debateai.com with the room ID.
